Reclaim Your Backyard!
We've all experienced setting up the back patio to have friends over for a summer barbecue; it might even be a beautiful July day with no threat of a thunderstorm. The sun is disappearing behind the trees as the meal is served. Then it happens. The mosquitoes that are in your backyard descend on your gathering and soon everyone is swatting and slapping. Who is enjoying their meal more, your guests or the pesky invaders?
When it is mosquito season on Long Island, it can be very difficult to enjoy the outdoors due to these disease ridden pests. In fact, the very aggressive Asian Tiger mosquito doesn’t care about shade and cool wet weather like their mosquito cousins. They will feed on you any time of the day and night in full sunlight or darkness. Mosquitoes expose us to insect borne diseases such as West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), and Zika, which are serious health threats in our region. Smithtown Tree and Lawn Spraying, Inc. provides expert mosquito control solutions for residential and commercial properties throughout Suffolk and Eastern Nassau County.
Lyme Disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and other tick transmitted illnesses are can be very serious. Spread by the bite of infected ticks, there are more than 300,000 cases of Lyme Disease reported every year to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With progressive advancement on Long Island due to an abundance of tick hosts such as deer, mice, birds and other animals, preventative measures are now more advisable than ever. Smithtown Tree & Lawn Spraying, Inc. is an expert at Tick Control and can help control these pests on your property all season long.
Help Prevent Ticks
1. Personal protection: Keep trouser legs tucked into socks or boots, shirts tucked in, and clothes buttoned. Avoid sitting on logs, stumps, or the ground in brushy areas. Periodically inspect clothing and the body for ticks to remove them before they become attached. Please seek immediate medical attention.
1. Help rid your yard of ticks: In heavily infested areas a Smithtown Tree and Lawn Spraying can make an application of an appropriately labeled pesticide. The technician will concentrate on the areas most likely to harbor ticks such as along paths, trails, property lines, fence rows and the yard- woods interface. The first application should be in the early spring to reduce the larvae and nymphs that overwintered. 2. Removal of hosts: The reduction or elimination of rodents in the area immediately surrounding the house is helpful. This can be accomplished with the use of rodenticides and/or rodent traps placed in tamper-resistant stations and secure areas inaccessible to children and pets.
